| Folk Songs of America - Wax Cylinder Recordings Courtesy of the Library of Congress, the American Folklife Center has a collection of MP3 recordings of american folk songs in MP3 format made from the original wax cylinder recordings. If you are doing a unit on Grieg or Granger or even about Ticheli's Cajun Folk Songs you can use these recordings as a resource to demonstrate the early recording techniques used by these composers.

The MERB is a comprehensive database of music education journal articles dating back to the 1970's. The index is searchable and while it does not include full text or summaries of the articles it catalogs, it does provide date and publication information. The MERB database seems to have been updated last in 2002. While the site still works it appears that new data is not being added to the database. |

| The Smithsonian Folkways Recordings
From The Smithsonian Folkways web site: Supporting cultural diversity and increased understanding among peoples through the documentation, preservation, and dissemination of sound. This very nicely done site houses hundreds of recordings of American music searchable by genre, title, composer, etc. The recordings are available for purchase on custom CD or cassette. Each song also has a brief preview in MP3 format. Similar to iTunes and other online music retailers, but you won't find this music on any of those other sites. VERY NICE AND USEFUL!
