Finale 2008 Review: Music Notation Software: New instrument sounds take LOTS of processor power

If you use this on an older computer be prepared to turn off the new instrument sounds that come with it. With them on it slowed my machine down to the point that you could not even listen to the music properly. Still, the other features are great, especially being able to use Finale files with SmartMusic Studio.

Finale's addition of the new instrument sounds complicates the install a bit due to the large file sizes, but otherwise the software is very stable and easy to use. Finale's help system has always been top notch, with a full PDF version of of the manual available for searching. Some of Finale's more high end functions are difficult for beginners to grasp at first, but the online and phone based support is always good and reasonably fast.
