Good Instruction, Challenging Instrument

In terms of music education software eMedia has always been a very strong contender. I have reviewed other titles by the company and must say that this latest addition to the My Music series is on par with the guitar and piano products but at the same time ventures down a path that is a bit more difficult to teach in this virtual way.

Instruments such as the guitar and piano have definite pitches due to the striking of a key against a piano string or the position of the finger against a fret. Teaching violin is inherently different than teaching the other instruments because the fingers have no physical landmark to go by on the fingerboard. My Violin's graphical fingering chart and electronic tuner go a long way toward overcoming this limitation.

The My Violin software does about as good a job at teaching a person how to play violin as can be done in the absence of a real life teacher. The concepts and methods used are educationally sound and if a student applies themselves the software provides more than enough content to give the student a good start on learning to play the violin.
