Notation Composer is a full featured, economical alternative to the big name music notation products of Finale and Sibelius.  With most of the same features but at half the retail price, Notation Composer presents itself as a solid notation product with a lot going for it.

Notation Composer: Great Features at Small Price

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful

Notation Composer installs incredibly fast and occupies a surprisingly small amount of disk space. It includes access to all of the most important and commonly used musical functions and these functions are laid out in a fashion that in the reviewers opinion is actually superior to Finale and Sibelius. Instead of floating tool panels that get in the way of the music on the screen, the various notation tools are laid out in tabbed menus that line the top of the music window.

Dynamic Parts and Other Added Features:

Notation Composer also supports dynamically linked parts, allowing users to work from the full score or from the individual parts. Parts are also printed via a simple interface.

The Notation family of products also have a free, downloadable Notation Player that non-owners of the full version can use to view and print Notation files on their computer.

One drawback to the Notation Composer software is also one that plagues the other music notation competitors. Notation Composer exports MusicXML files but does not import them. Further, Notation can only open MIDI files and other files created in a Notation product. Another drawback is the lack of phone based tech support. All support is either through email or through the Notation user forum. For $149 one would expect the ability to speak to a live person for assistance, even if only for a limited period of time following the purchase.
