While Jesus Loves Me is not used very much in the public schools, I still remember trying to play it on my trombone as a child and fishing around for the notes until I got it right. It is one of the most often sung hymns, especially by children, and with summer camp and other similar events happening all around the country I thought it might be nice to have a printable set of music should the need arise. I even threw in parts for the Violin just in case!
Jesus Loves Me was actually written between 1860-1862 by lyricist Anna
Warner and music composer William Bradbury. The original lyrics were
written for a Sunday School teacher to sing to a dying young boy.
Nearly a hundred and fifty years after it was first sung, it is now a
staple part of world wide sacred music. Travelling with missionaries
across Asia and Europe,Rev. Harutune S. Jenanyan spread the song in many different languages. A statement by a descendent of Rev. Jenanyan speaking of these travels is available at CyberHymnal.org. The site also includes several bibliographic references for further study.
The current lyrics to Jesus Loves Me are available at the bottom of this page, however one stanza of the original lyrics is not normally sung in current practice. These missing lyrics are shown here:
Jesus loves me! Loves me still,
Though I’m very weak and ill,
That I might from sin be free
Bled and died upon the tree.

The Words or Lyrics To Jesus Loves Me:
Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Refrain
Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.
Refrain
Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Refrain
Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.
