If you are having trouble crossing the break on the clarinet check to see if you are covering the key holes properly.  Press your fingers firmly into the holes for a few seconds then look at the fingertips.  The circles from the tone holes should be complete circles.  If not, you are letting air leak out which can prevent high notes (and others) from playing correctly.
