Conn-Selmer Launches New Brass Mouthpiece Finder Page

Mouthpiece Finder Screen ShotFor those who are not brass players to begin with picking the right mouthpiece can be a little...  well...  complicated.  Cup sizes, rim sizes, finishes, all of these things go into selecting the right mouthpiece for your instrument.  Conn-Selmer has just taken the lid off of a new web site that helps you with the decision and order your perfect fit.  In some ways though it leaves much to be desired.  Read on to find out more.

When I saw the press release I was kind of enthusiastic about the idea of a mouthpiece finder web site, especially one that would deal with Bach mouthpieces.  I don't really know what I was expecting, but I guess it was a little more than what I got when I visited.  A graphic at the top of the page shows the reasons for selecting different sizes of mouthpiece, but essentially all the page itself is is a lot of pull down menus to help you make your purchase.

As I write this I guess this is honestly a lot more than most music retailers bother doing.  Having the graphic there to look at is a nice piece of eye candy, but considering how complicated this process can be I would have liked to see a little more polish and bling on the page.  Maybe a video or two, may a suggestion list for beginners vs. intermediate, etc.  To help those without a professional instructor to help them.  Still, the new Conn-Selmer Mouthpiece Finder site is a good start, and if you are in the market for a new mouthpiece give it a try before you buy.
