Lewis Nash Pays Tribute to Max Roach

Jazz, throughout its history, has often been paired with social protest. This fact is nowhere more evident than in legendary jazz drummer Max Roach’s 1960 recording entitled, We Insist! Freedom Now Suite. Bebop drumming authority Lewis Nash will be leading an all-star cast of musicians at Chicago’s Symphony Center in a recreation of this legendary jazz album.

Anyone who has heard drummer Brian Blade perform knows that he is one of the most dynamic drummers on the jazz scene today (or on any other scene, for that matter). He has performed and recorded with some of the most prolific musicians of our time, including Wayne Shorter, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, and Bob Dylan. Blade is now set to perform with John McLaughlin and Chick Corea’s Five Peace Band.
