Modern Live Sound BoxWhen I taught high school band I was constantly having to worry about, adjust, and fix the amplification system in my school gym and also the portable units that we would occasionally take with us to special events.  The thing was that I never really had a clue what I was doing, I just set the thing up, adjusted it the way I thought sounded good, and then let the chips fall where they may.  Well, Alfred just came out with a new DVD called Alfred's Pro Audio Series:  Modern Live Sound that is supposed to be a "practical, step-by-step guide to mixing for today’s sound reinforcement engineer." Apparently they also have a version specifically for use in churches that might be more appropriate for those of you still performing in gymatoriums.

From the press release:

The DVD features informative visuals accompanied by expert advice, tips, and tricks from seasoned professionals. Topics include: digital and analog consoles, EQs, crossovers, limiters, and snakes; wireless microphones and in ear monitors; various venues, from clubs to large outdoor systems; tips for feedback control, troubleshooting, and hum elimination; ways to achieve perfect sound checks and tune a room; and professional mixing techniques.

If you are like me and only know enough about the process to be dangerous this DVD might be worth a closer look.  If you do grab a copy let me know what you think of it!
