Graduating With A Music Degree

I’d like to think I am a fairly well educated musician.  I have a B.A. and an M.A. in my field of expertise, but lately when I was considering going back to earn a few extra credits in a related field I discovered that the online music degree business has really blossomed lately, to the point that it is getting very confusing as to what to take, where to take it, and why you should bother taking it at all.  With dozens of different brick and mortar and online only colleges offering certificates and degrees the question arises of which one should you go with and which one would help you meet your personal and career goals.

Since I am a fairly experienced writer and researcher I decided to do some leg work and try to figure out the ins and outs of earning a music degree from an online college. This is the first in a series of articles that are intended to help you find the best path to earning your desired music degree online.  Each article will focus on a different step in the process, beginning with this one where we discuss selecting a degree or certificate program that will help you meet your career goals whether they be in music business, theory, composition, or some other related area.

Later articles in the series will expand on the different specializations and career paths that earning a specific degree or certificate can help you get into.  Finally we will talk a bit about specific online music school programs such as Berklee, Full Sail, and others including both those that meet completely online as well as those that work through a mixture of online and on campus class work.  As articles are added to the series they will be listed and linked below.
